Metron and Correlsense Partner to Deliver Transaction-based Capacity Planning Solution for Greater IT Reliability

 Joint Solution Combines Transactional Data with Capacity Planning Capabilities to Help IT Organizations Forecast, Plan and Optimize IT Infrastructures

Woodland Hills, CA, United States, August 13, 2010 – Metron Technology, the leading performance management and capacity planning specialist, today announced a partnership with Correlsense, a provider of IT Reliability™ solutions. The two companies will jointly offer Correlsense’s SharePath and Metron’s Athene to provide a complete capacity management solution that allows organizations to understand the performance of both their core systems and critical services. By combining business forecast information with infrastructure performance metrics, IT organizations can predict whether they have sufficient capacity to meet their needs at both the component and service levels.

While traditional capacity planning solutions focus on monitoring individual IT components and creating models to predict their usage, such solutions may fall short for complex, dynamic environments. This is because it is difficult to predict the true infrastructure impact of business growth for a specific department or product line, since there is no way of knowing which infrastructure items (servers and software components) serve which business services. By using the complementary products from Metron and Correlsense, customers can move to the next level of physical or virtual performance assurance by optimizing infrastructure functionality while maintaining required business service levels.

Metron’s Athene modeling software solves this problem by employing transaction data from Correlsense’s SharePath solution to provide precise forecasts. By tracing transactions, Correlsense provides the missing link by correlating business growth to the infrastructure it depends on. In return, IT organizations gain the required visibility that enables capacity planning for multifaceted environments, resulting in more accurate results. By feeding Correlsense’s transaction-level data into Metron’s Athene, users can employ this data as the basis for addressing all of the capacity questions faced by an organization.

“Combining SharePath’s business transaction management views of complex applications spanning multiple processing points with Athene’s cross-platform modeling capabilities takes capacity planning from a resource level in ITIL terms to a service-wide view,” said Andrew Smith, chief sales and marketing officer for Metron. “Users can now plan their future infrastructure requirements from a business perspective, rather than a purely technical perspective.”

Among the benefits customers of the joint solution will experience are:

  • Reduced risk of capacity planning mistakes and wrong assumptions for complex and dynamic architectures;
  • Improved service delivery
  • Cost savings by optimizing resources with business demand and growth.

John Reuben, vice president of sales and marketing for Correlsense, said, “Among professionals who identify themselves as information technologists, it’s hard to believe how many struggle without the adequate level of data necessary to make informed capacity planning decisions and attain complete IT reliability. In any industry, information is power, and the transaction-level data Correlsense’s SharePath feeds into Metron’s Athene delivers the kind of in-depth views that businesses need to optimize their IT operations.”

About Correlsense

Correlsense SharePath provides a breakthrough in IT Reliability™ by enabling for the first time both a bird’s-eye and detailed view of how business transactions perform across the four dimensions (4D) of end-users, applications, infrastructure and business processes. While other service management and performance management applications focus on identifying problems at individual components (servers, databases, etc.), SharePath automatically detects and traces each entire transaction path, from a click in the browser through all its hops across data center tiers. With the ability to record and correlate individual transaction activations across both physical and virtual components, IT gains full visibility of the transaction metrics required to ensure IT Reliability™ for packaged and homegrown applications. The rich data from SharePath is used by major enterprises to rapidly pinpoint and solve problems and to gain unprecedented insights for their IT Service Management initiatives such as ITIL.
