A new white paper focusing on application performance management for virtualization and clouds has been released by Bernd Harzog of The Virtualization Practice. Harzog divides the APM market into two categories: solutions focused on custom developed applications (DevOps), and those focused on monitoring applications in production (AppOps). SharePath by Correlsense falls into the later category.
Running business critical applications (whether they be custom developed or purchased) in virtualized, distributed and cloud based environments requires that the operations staff supporting these applications understand the performance of every application in production. Performance means response time and throughput, not resource utilization as it is impossible to infer the performance of applications running in modern environments by looking at their consumption of either physical or virtual resources. AppOpps tools are designed to provide the Operations staff with the critical information that they need in order to diagnose issues in the virtual and physical infrastructure that are impacting application response time and throughput.
